Automatic discovery and reconciliation from an umbrella vantage point
The Automatic Discovery and Reconciliation (ADM) module crawls through your network and hybrid data center infrastructure, scans virtual resources, and detects all logical resources with a special focus on topologies, providing an unprecedented level of inventory detail.
The plugin architecture allows for the creation of connectors for any equipment or element manager (EMS), completely vendor-agnostic. Information is obtained directly from devices and EMSs using various protocols such as SNMP, CLI, HTTP/S, API, SOAP, CORBA, NETCONF, FILE, etc.
All gathered data is consolidated to compute diverse network topologies across layers such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS, L2, L3, SAN, etc. To create a comprehensive view, it overlays partial topologies from EMSs and network devices. The calculation of these topologies involves a variety of data sources and algorithms.
ADM’s GUI allows scheduling of one-off or repetitive discovery jobs, providing granularity for resource inventory updates. Manual or triggered discovery for a group or a single device offers maximum flexibility.
When a new resource is discovered, whom do you trust: the inventory or the discovered data? The decision is entirely yours to make as you define policies that determine when automatic updates are executed or when an engineer's approval is required.
Periodic rescanning is a great practice as it consistently enforces inventory accuracy. However, ADM goes beyond this—it can be integrated with an external data bus and utilize the data stream to update inventory in near-real time.
